JOIN OKA FIGURE SKATING FOR

PRE-SEASON TRAINING CAMP

SEptember 25-26, 2026

Grand Forks, ND

More Than a Camp. A Stronger Start to Your Season.

A weekend designed to jump-start your best season yet.

Our Preseason Training Camp brings together figure skaters from across the region for two days of intentional training before the competitive season begins. Athletes will participate in focused on-ice and off-ice sessions designed to strengthen skating skills, develop jumps and spins, improve athletic performance, and build confidence heading into a new season. Every session has a purpose, giving skaters practical skills and training they can continue building on long after camp ends.

One of the things we're most excited about is bringing together an exceptional team of coaches who genuinely love teaching and sharing their knowledge. Throughout the weekend, athletes will be exposed to new drills, techniques, training methods, and ways of thinking about their skating. Our hope is that every skater leaves camp with fresh ideas, practical tools, and renewed excitement they can take back to their home rink.

Beyond the training itself, this camp is an opportunity to meet skaters from other clubs, build new friendships, and experience the energy that comes from learning alongside athletes who share the same passion for figure skating. Whether your goal is to land a new jump, improve your skating skills, or simply start the season feeling prepared and inspired, we can't wait to welcome you to Grand Forks this September.

WHO IS CAMP FOR?

Our Preseason Training Camp is open to figure skaters from all clubs and organizations.

Skaters should be able to skate independently, have a basic understanding of figure skating fundamentals, and be comfortable managing themselves in a camp environment.

Athletes of all abilities are welcome, from those developing foundational figure skating skills to skaters working on Gold-level tests, double jumps, and advanced spin combinations.

Throughout the weekend, skaters will be divided into appropriate skill groups, allowing each athlete to train alongside others of similar ability. This ensures every skater is challenged at the right level while receiving coaching that is appropriate for their stage of development.

WHAT TO EXPECT ON ICE

Skaters will participate in a variety of on-ice sessions throughout the weekend focused on skating skills, jumps, spins, power, performance, and other technical areas of figure skating.

Athletes can expect to learn new techniques, drills, and skills while being challenged in a positive, encouraging environment. Our coaching team is committed to providing individualized feedback, helping each skater build confidence, and supporting every athlete along the way.

And of course... expect great music! We LOVE our tunes at Oka, and you'll hear upbeat playlists throughout the weekend to keep the energy high and make training even more fun.

All on-ice sessions will be led by Pene DeMaster, Mallory Jevning, and/or Brianna Anderson, with support from additional camp counselors. Athletes will train in skill-based groups to ensure instruction is appropriate for each level.

What to expect Off Ice

Figure skaters need more than great on-ice skills to reach their potential. Throughout the weekend, athletes will participate in off-ice sessions designed to support their development as complete athletes.

Off-ice sessions include:

  • Jump Development: Improve jump technique, body awareness, and air position.
  • Athletic Development at CrossFit Tundra with Tina Greenwaldt: Learn movement, strength, coordination, and athletic habits that transfer to the ice.
  • Team Building & Confidence Activities: Build connections with other skaters while developing confidence and communication skills.
  • Performance & Interpretation with Amy Driscoll: Explore movement, expression, and performance quality to become a more confident and engaging performer.

These sessions are designed to complement on-ice training and give skaters tools they can continue using long after camp ends.
