JOIN OKA FIGURE SKATING FOR
BEYOND THE ICE
Summer 2026
Devils Lake + Williston
Better Habits. Stronger Skaters.
Summer workshop series focused on athlete education, movement, and building better habits.
Beyond the Ice is a
summer off-ice workshop series designed to help skaters
build stronger habits, better body awareness, and confidence both on and off the ice. These sessions focus on the pieces of athlete development that often don’t get enough attention during regular practices... things like mobility, balance, recovery habits, hydration, posture, coordination, and overall athletic development. Each workshop is hands-on, interactive, and designed to give skaters practical tools they can continue using year-round, both during the off-season and throughout the main skating season.

who is this for
Devils Lake:
The Devils Lake workshop series is open to all figure skaters regardless of program or club affiliation. Skaters will be divided into two age groups:
- Grades 2-6
- Grades 7-12
Williston:
The Williston workshop series is currently available for active Oka Figure Skating members through 7th grade. If space allows after member registration, remaining spots may be opened to non-member figure skaters in grades 3-7.
Sessions and activities will be adjusted appropriately based on age and developmental level to keep the workshops engaging, practical, and relevant for each group.
WHAT to expect
Sessions will run approximately 1 to 2 hours in length (pending group/location) and will include a combination of movement-based activities, athlete education, discussion, and practical exercises. Workshops are designed to be interactive, welcoming, and hands-on...giving skaters the opportunity to learn, move, ask questions, and better understand how to support their development outside of weekly skating lessons.
Activities, discussions, and exercises will be adjusted based on age and developmental level to ensure content remains engaging, appropriate, and useful for each group of skaters.
Each month will focus on a different topic area:
- June: Mobility, flexibility, posture, and alignment
- July: Balance, jumping coordination, agility, and body control
- August: Hydration, sleep, recovery habits, and nutrition basics for athletes
All registered skaters will leave each session with both a
take-home handout and a
physical tool
connected to the month’s topic; such as a stretching band, agility dots, water bottle, or similar training item. Skaters will learn how to properly use each tool during the workshop,
then take it home to continue practicing and building healthy habits throughout the year.
