DRYLAND

Dryland training is where skaters build the strength, awareness, and athletic foundation that supports everything they do on the ice.

Throughout the year, Oka offers a variety of off-ice training opportunities designed to help skaters develop balance, coordination, strength, mobility, and movement patterns that directly translate to skating. By training beyond the rink, athletes return to the ice feeling stronger, more stable, and more confident in how they move.

Join us for dryland, where off-ice time translates to on-ice progress.

Dryland with Oka is designed to help skaters better understand their bodies and build the physical tools needed for confident, efficient skating.

Dryland opportunities may be offered as classes, in collaboration with other professional training partners, personal training, or small group sessions. At times, we partner with specialists — such as dance studios — to provide focused training, like ballet or movement-based classes that support skating development.

Certified Professional Instruction

Dryland training at Oka is led by Coach Mal. As a CF-L1 trainer, a CrossFit Kids Trainer, a U.S. Figure Skating–compliant coach, and a member of Coach Ice, she understands the specific physical demands of figure skating. With a decade of experience leading dryland and small-group training across multiple programs, she draws on her background in CrossFit and personal training to bring energy to each session.

Session Times to Compliment Main Season Programming

Dryland best supports skaters throughout the season, depending on the time of year, location, coach availability, and the academy’s overall training schedule.

Encouraging Athlete's Healthy Habits & Lifestyle

Our goal is to create a positive, encouraging environment where skaters learn how to train with purpose, build resilience, and develop habits that support long-term growth in the sport.

Each workout is structured around safe progressions, proper technique, and skating-specific strength development so the training directly supports athletes on the ice.

Figure skating is a uniquely beautiful sport. Not only does it require the strength and power of an explosive athlete, but also the artistry and grace of a true performer.

That balance is developed over time. Skills are earned through consistent work, discipline, and perseverance—through showing up, pushing through challenges, and learning from each step along the way. This process builds more than technical ability; it builds confidence, resilience, and a strong foundation that supports growth both on and off the ice.

At Oka, we believe in training with purpose, care, and intention—meeting skaters where they are while helping them move forward with confidence.

Let’s build that foundation together.

June Figure Skating Begins

Ice Times

June ice times give skaters the chance to log 12+ hours of open ice across the month. Athletes typically receive 2–3 on-ice training sessions each week, with each session lasting about 20–30 minutes, depending on their level. Final schedules are confirmed once registrations are in, and June Ice will only be held if we meet the minimum number of skaters, so save your spot early!
